Italy, 2022. I don’t know why, but I have a crush on swimming pools..of course if they are abandoned.
I don’t like to swim in artificial pools at all (definitely prefer “natural” water such as lake or, even better, the sea 🧡), but if they are empty and neglected and maybe also covered in graffitis…well, I’ll take 100 pictures at least.
This little gem is the pool of an abandoned hotel I found during one of my travels in Italy, in the region of Ferrara, on a cold winter afternoon.
The hotel stands directly to the beach, but I was not able to enter it cause it was really well sealed (trust me, I tried everything).
When I was about to give up hope and leave..I found some stairs in the fallow garden on the back of the hotel, which lead me to the pool. As I arrived, some birds flown out of the reeds that are now growing where once was the high water part of the pool. Majestic.
The hotel, thus the pool, was built in the 60’s and was a first class tourist facilities with a private beach, which has hosted holiday people from all over the world. But over the years, the lack of renovations caused the loss of costumer, until reaching a state of complete abandonment in the mid 90’s.
Lucky me.
